About Chef Shane

Chef Shane Pinnegar provides simply great food in the most isolated capital city in the world – Perth, Western Australia.

Shane is now based back in his hometown Perth after 4 1/2 years in the gold mining town of Kalgoorlie, and is currently managing the Nedlands Rugby Club’s River Room function centre and sports ground canteen, as well as offering funky catering to private and corporate clients.

Shane has been a chef for over a quarter of a century, initially training in Perth before working in England, France, Greece and Canada, as well as Cairns on Australia’s East Coast and, most recently, Kalgoorlie.

Shane has worked in a multitude of venues from hotels, cafes, pubs and outside caterers, including prestigious venues such as The London Hilton Hotel on Park Lane; Fortnum & Mason’s Department Store in London; Selene Restaurant on the Greek island of Santorini; The Brass Monkey Brasserie in Perth, WA; The Sportman’s Inn in Killarney, Canada; Ocean Spirit Cruises in Cairns taking tourists to snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef; and ran his own Voodoo Moon and Voodoo To You catering in Perth for sixteen or so years, catering many hundreds of events and feeding thousands of satisfied guests.

Additionally, Shane wrote several food articles and contributed recipes to The West Australian newspaper, and has been featured in the Guardian Express, Post, Flourish, WA Business News and Sunday Times papers and magazines, and on the Today Tonight news program.

Shane made the Voodoo Moon range of top-end deluxe hot sauces and chutneys, which won many awards at the Perth Royal Show ad Araluen Chilli Festival during the 2000’s, and has recently launched a brand new hot sauce under the Chef Shane banner – Kalgoorlie Gold. Featuring mango and habanero with a little native lemon myrtle, Kalgoorlie Gold is the perfect balance of fire and flavour for those who like to walk on the wild side.

Shane’s food philosophy is simple: good quality produce, creative ideas, clean flavours, prepared by hand as much as possible, all ensuring you, the client, have a successful and memorable event for all the right reasons.

Shane’s specialties include bespoke canapes & finger food catering, gourmet barbecues and the use of this country’s wonderful bush tucker ingredients in his menus. Shane takes great pride in catering for all dietary requirements, especially Gluten Free and Vegetarian options. Recent clients have included Artgold, WA School of Mines, Population Health, City of Kalgoorlie Boulder, movie set for production ‘Kid Snow’, Women In Mining, Goldfields Pride, John Paul College and Pacific National, and some of his more memorable catering experiences have included barbecuing bear kebabs in the Canadian snow, cooking a whole lamb and pig on the spit in a Leonora car park, boiling hundreds of crayfish for luxury picnics on the banks of Lake Huron, Ontario, serving vodka cupcakes for the Russian Film Festival in Perth, cooking gourmet barbecues on the deck of charter boats on the Swan River, slinging soup for the crew of the movie Kid Snow after midnight on the streets of Coolgardie on multiple chilly winter nights, creating a Star Wars theme kid’s birthday menu, learning the wonders of Texan barbecue, sharing White Russian smoothies and Jalapeno margaritas with colleagues in several countries, and developing a deeper understanding of gluten free alternatives to better cater for his gluten-intolerant wife.

Chef Shane infuses all of his food with integrity and passion and the flavours and creativity of a life spent travelling and searching for new experiences, and works hard to develop a collaborative relationship with his clients in order to best meet their needs and make their events as special as possible. Shane and his team use ethically sourced and organic ingredients wherever possible, and recycle all the food scraps and packaging that we can.
